Drug Uses
Levaquin is used to cure a variety of bacterial infections that are severe in nature like several types of sinus infection and pneumonia, flare-ups of chronic bronchitis, acute kidney infections, chronic prostate infections and infections of the skin.
Usage
Take Levaquin exactly as instructed by your doctor. You may take it with or without food. However, the absorption of Levaquin is diminished when taken with certain kinds of drugs like antacids or iron supplements.
Missed Dose
Take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the one you missed and go back to your regular schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.
Storage
Store it in a tightly closed container at room temperature. Keep away from the reach of children.
Overdose
While it isn’t really toxic, an overdose of Levaquin may still be dangerous. Some of the symptoms that are seen are Breathlessness, lack of movement, poor coordination, tremors, convulsions and collapse. Seek medical attention immediately if you suspect an overdose.
More Information
Levaquin may cause drowsiness or dizziness and hence it is recommended that you do not drive or handle dangerous machinery until you know how to react to the drug. Do not consume alcohol with the drug as it aggravates the above mentioned symptoms.
There are some cautions to be taken care while taking Levaquin. If you have any kind of hypersensitivity towards any quinolones, then intimate the same to your doctor. If you are a patient experiencing abnormal heart rate than avoid consuming Levaquin. Drug can be taken with or without food with full glass of water at anytime or as prescribed by your physician. If you are taking cisapride or certain antiarrhythmics, please clarify the same to your doctor.
It is common for drugs to have some side effects, either mild or severe and Levaquin is no exception. Most commonly observed are dizziness, fainting, fast heartbeat; sudden pain or swelling in joints; watery or bloody diarrhea; confusion, pale or yellowed skin, dark colored urine, fever, weakness; urinating less than usual or not at all. Red skin rash; or the first sign of any skin rash. Moreover caution should be also taken for severe allergic reactions. The severity of these Levofloxacin side effects varies from patient to patient. Moreover, it is meant to be used only by the prescription of a doctor; it should be used with cautions in special populations like children, pregnant females and nursing mothers.
